Skills Lab

Purpose

The Skills Lab provides a range of English language support services courses for all levels, as well as workshops and tutorials to all graduate students. It is the aim of the Skills Lab to strengthen English language skills, support academic success, and expand professional opportunity. Although particularly useful for thesis writing, our services also cater to a wide range of academic needs such as writing for publications, speaking, and oral presentation techniques.     Programs and Services

  • English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses
  • Proofreading and editing of all student manuscripts
  • One-on-one writing support
  • One-on-one communication skills coaching

English for Specific Purposes. We offer scheduled ESAP courses such as:

  • Integrated Academic English Skills covering all the four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • Academic Writing Skills which focus on aspects of good academic writing, including: syntax, structure, language usage, paraphrasing and summarizing
  • Academic Presentation Skills with tips for effective presentation techniques, where students can practice in the context of scientific environments
  • Pronunciation and Speaking to improve fluency and confidence in spoken English
  • Reading and Academic Vocabulary Development to bolster command of English

The Writing Center. This service is offered to analyze and improve your academic writing with drop-in consultations and support sessions. It is held in the Library, room 2130, on Tuesdays from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. To ensure to ensure tutor availability during the above sessions, please email us. To request an appointment outside of our scheduled availability, please email: skillslab@kaust.edu.sa

Tutors can also be directly emailed if you have specific questions.

Additional Services

Workshops and tutorials may be offered at selected times to support students with presentation techniques or other communication skills when required.

The Skills Lab team also deliver the English as a Second Language program to students requiring English Language support. This ESL program is available to qualifying students only.
