Murtadha Y. Al Malallah

Murtadha is a PhD student in the Earth Science and Engineering Program (ErSE), and an affiliate of Ali Al-Naimi Petroleum Engineering Research Center (PSE Division). He did his master’s as part of the Energy Resources and Petroleum Engineering (ErPE). His research is focused on CO2 storage and mineralization in volcanic rocks.
Prior to joining KAUST, Murtadha completed his bachelor’s degree in Geoscience from the University of Arizona as part of the KAUST Gifted Student Program (KGSP). During his time in the United States, Murtadha served as the president of the Saudi Students Association in Tucson, Arizona, where he was the point contact for the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM). As the president, he oversaw the student development programs for Saudis and student struggles in the area.
Murtadha also served as the president of the KGSP Alumni Association, a student-led association that serves KGSP alumni in both their transition to KAUST, network building within the KGSP community, and professional development to prepare them for their life after their KAUST journey. Murtadha is also the co-founder and president of Maseera, a student-led organization that provides consultation and mentorship for k-12 Saudi nationals around the country
