Commencement Ceremony
The Commencement ceremony is the flagship event in our academic calendar, and it will take place on Friday, December 14, 2018. The event will take place in the Discovery Walk between Al Khawarizmi (building 1) & the University Library (building 12). Commencement will be held rain or shine. In case of severe weather conditions, the event will take place at the Auditorium (building 20).
Program
More information about the program and reception will be available during the Fall 2018 Semester.
Seating
Degree Candidates and Faculty will sit in designated areas. For all other attendees, including family members and guests, seating will be on a first come, first served basis. All guests will be asked to present their KAUST or Commencement ID badges to be seated. Guests will be seated by designated ushers. Additional information will be given at the Commencement Dress Rehearsal.
Student Dress code for the Commencement Ceremony
It is compulsory that all participants wear the full Academic Regalia – cap, gown and hood. Colored scarves for women, which represent each academic division, will be provided on the day of Commencement. The dress code is smart/formal. The following examples would be appropriate:
Dress Code for Men
Smart, long, black pants/trousers; and/or thobe.
Conservative t-shirt without a collar, with sleeves (for under the Commencement gown). If you plan to remove the Commencement gown for the reception, please bring a long-sleeved formal shirt to change into.
Smart/formal, closed-toe, black shoes. (No trainers, sports shoes, sandals, slippers, beach shoes, Crocs or flip-flops.)
Dress Code for Women
Smart, long, black pants/trousers or a conservative black/dark-colored dress and/or abaya.
If you are wearing trousers or a skirt, you may wear a conservative t-shirt without a collar, but with sleeves (for under the Commencement gown). If you plan to remove the Commencement gown for the reception, please bring a long-sleeved formal shirt to change into.
Smart/formal closed-toe, peep-toe, black shoes or sandals. (No trainers, sport shoes, sandals, slippers, beach shoes, Crocs or flip-flops.)
