KAUST Library Director Dr. J. K. Vijayakumar has been elected to the board of directors of the International Association of University Libraries (IATUL), effective January 2019.

The University has been an active member of IATUL since 2009. IATUL provides a global forum where library directors and senior managers can meet to discuss issues relating to library service development and develop different approaches to challenges. The organization also provides a network of high-level expertise that is based on international understanding.

IATUL president Dr. Reiner Kallenborn, the library director at the Technical University of Munich, noted that Vijayakumar was the most well-suited out of many other candidates to foster IATUL's ambition to serve as a bridge between cultures and to promote mutual understanding among librarians of different nationalities.

"Being elected to this international board comes in recognition of KAUST's growth and of the Library, and also personally of me," Vijayakumar stated.
