KAUST ranks among world’s top 100 in eight subjects, leads Saudi Arabia in four

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) continues to showcase academic excellence in disciplines critical to the future of Saudi Arabia and the world. 

In the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject, KAUST ranks No. 1 in Saudi Arabia for materials science, chemistry, natural sciences, and electrical engineering. 

“These results reflect the dedication of our community, including our students, and the contribution KAUST continues to make across science and engineering,” said President Sir Edward Byrne AC. “They are also a reflection of our academic excellence and our mission to advance science where it matters most, in Saudi Arabia and globally.” 

Globally, the University ranks in the top 100 for the following: 

  • Petroleum engineering (11) 

  • Materials science (36) 

  • Electrical engineering (56) 

  • Chemistry (58) 

  • Chemical engineering (68) 

  • Natural sciences (76) 

  • Engineering and technology (78) 

  • Mechanical engineering (98) 

Compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds, a global higher education analytics organization, the rankings compare more than 1,500 universities and 15,700 academic programs across 104 locations worldwide, reflecting growing demand for measurable, real-world impact. 

These results demonstrate KAUST’s ability to attract top talent to the Kingdom and develop the scientific leaders needed regionally and internationally, contributing to the Saudi Vision 2030 goal of improving the global standing of the Kingdom’s educational institutions.
