Sixteen undergraduate students from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in Chengdu visited the University's campus and the Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Science and Engineering (CEMSE) division in March as part of a one-week Spring Camp.

Participating students were chosen from the top 10 percent of students in UESTC, and this year, four of the participants were female. Several students from UESTC already study at KAUST, and the University's collaboration with UESTC is growing.

The visit inspired students' future research paths and gave them the opportunity to learn about KAUST's offerings in electrical engineering and applied mathematics and computational science. Students explored related University laboratory facilities, attending seminars and lab demonstrations on the hottest topics in computer visualization, machine learning, photonics, printable electronics and the internet of things.

Sixteen faculty members from CEMSE took part in discussions with the students during their visit, and students also participated in a full-day workshop organized by Talal AlAttar, KAUST senior lecturer of electrical engineering. In addition, KAUST President Tony Chan met with the students during an open forum.

At the conclusion of the trip, the students shared a presentation about their experience at KAUST and in Saudi Arabia in English with the participating faculty members.
