​Housing and Facilities


KAUST staff or faculty and their families enjoy a unique and exciting living experience combined with upscale housing accommodation and amenities situated in a diverse multi-culture environment.

The housing at KAUST is designed in modern Arabesque style. The Community offers a variety of housing options to eligible students, faculty and staff. These options include villas, detached houses, townhouses and apartments which are obtainable for nominal rental expense. Housing types vary in size from one to four bedrooms.

The elegant residences are provided fully furnished and maintained for the reisdents' convenience through a dedicated team of professionals available to respond and coordinate all inquiry and request 7 days a week. Services for garbage removal, local telephone, and ongoing home maintenance are provided.

KAUST faculty and staff live in one of our three residential areas:
  • Safaa Gardens, golf course neighborhood
  • Harbor District, shopping neighborhood
  • Safaa Island neighborhood, along the Red Sea coast
Each vicinity has distinct advantages and a unique character - a view of the Red Sea, and easy access to a premier golf course, fitness clubs, daycare, shopping and public transportation.

Health and Wellness

Our goal is to succeed in achieving our University mission, research endeavors and aspirations to make KAUST an academic destination. Being healthy and well goes hand-in-hand with that goal. That's why KAUST has made the health and wellbeing of our entire community a high priority. A broad range of resources, services, programs and support are available and accessible to ensure that our community members, students, faculty and staff, stay physically healthy and emotionally well.

KAUST Health offers a broad range of services that focus on a holistic approach to prevention, treatment, and follow-up for patients. In 2016, it achieved the prestigious award of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA), which is recognized worldwide as a landmark of quality care. KAUST Health partners with Doctor Soliman Fakeeh Hospital (DSFH) in Jeddah to provide highly-quality medical expertise to the community.

KAUST also commissions an independent organization to provide an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – a benefit which is open to all employees, post docs, their spouses and immediate family members, wherever they are in the world. A wide range of services and support are also available to our graduate students, to ensure and enhance their academic and personal well-being.

Community Services

Community and residential services are provided and include:
  • Home maintenance
  • High-speed Internet
  • Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the Academic Campus 
  • Satellite television
  • Electricity and water
  • Refuse removal
  • Local telephone service


The Daycare Center offers childcare services for children 2 months old to 5 years of age, with teachers and childcare specialists trained in early childhood development. Classes are divided into groups of appropriate age range and the school designed and equipped to meet the unique needs of the class.

Transportation Services

Transportation Services offers shuttle bus within the University. The color-coded routes pass through major buildings and establishments and are available from 6:30AM until 1:00AM.

Buses are also available to residents for regular scheduled trips to various commercial centers in Jeddah and to the nearby cities of Mecca and Medina.

The community is also provided with taxi services for airport transfers or trips to Jeddah. Short to long-term vehicle lease and rentals are also available (with option for driver services).
