The King's Speech at KAUST Groundbreaking Ceremony
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King
Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud
October 21, 2007 - Thuwal, Saudi Arabia
In the name of God Most Gracious, Most Merciful, and with prayers upon the Prophet Muhammad
and his Companions.
Based on Islam's eternal values, which urge us to seek knowledge
and develop ourselves and our societies, and relying on God Almighty, we declare the
establishment of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and hope it will be a
source of knowledge and serve as a bridge between people and cultures. We also hope that it
delivers its humane and noble message in an ideal environment, with the help of God and the
minds and the ideas of enlightened people, who will participate in this educational mission
without discrimination.
In keeping with the traditions of the golden age of Arab
Muslim civilization, we have established an endowment, from which we only wish God's
blessings, so that this institution may benefit the citizens of this beloved country, which
is the cradle of Islam, and benefit all of mankind.
I pray to God to make this
university a "House of Wisdom", a forum for science and research, and a beacon of
knowledge for future generations.
God bless you all.
