Andrew Michael MacLeod

Chief of Staff to the President

Andrew MacLeod AKC serves as Chief of Staff of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. He brings extensive experience across government, international organizations, business, philanthropy, and higher education, with a career spanning senior operational leadership, governance, and strategic advisory roles in Australia, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.

Andrew has held chief executive and chair positions in legal, advisory, and investment firms, including Britished-based Griffin Law, Macson Investments and UAE-based Burnham Global, and currently serves as a non executive director of the Saudi based Arabian Leopard Fund.

He has held senior leadership roles in the resources sector with Rio Tinto and has served on boards and advisory bodies spanning sustainable investment, risk, and public policy. His academic appointments include visiting and distinguished fellowships at Australian institutions such as Deakin University and the University of Tasmania, and in the United Kingdom at King’s College London, where he is a visiting professor.

Earlier in his career, Andrew worked extensively in humanitarian and emergency response contexts with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations, including as Chief of Operations for the UN Emergency Coordination Centre during the international response to the 2005 Kashmir earthquake. He is co founder of the Swiss and US based charity Hear Their Cries and has been widely recognized for his work advancing accountability and child protection in the aid sector.

Andrew’s service and impact have been recognized through multiple national and international honors, including the Australian Defence Medal, the Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal awarded twice, the Deakin University Distinguished Fellows Award, the University of Tasmania Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award, the Young Britons Foundation Global Award for Freedom, and the Law Society of England and Wales ‘Legal Hero’ Award in 2024 for his work protecting children.

Andrew holds degrees in arts and law, postgraduate qualifications in international law, and an Associateship of King’s College London. He maintains a commission as an officer in the Australian Army Reserve.
