Fletcher is an attorney and member of the North Carolina
State Bar with more than 20 years of experience managing
legal affairs for global research institutions and
technology companies as in-house and outside legal
counsel. He has advised on a wide variety of issues,
including institutional governance, research partnerships,
commercial transactions, intellectual property, procurement,
investments, and compliance. He has lived and worked
in the U.S., Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East and
conducted business globally.
Fletcher graduated from
Davidson College, obtained his master's degree in Spanish
American Literature from the University of Colorado,
Boulder, and earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from the
Washington College of Law at American University.
Fletcher was an associate at the law firm of Steptoe &
Johnson in Washington, D.C. He began his in-house
legal career at Amadeus IT Group in Madrid, Spain. He
went on to serve as Associate General Counsel at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at North
Carolina State University. He also was General Counsel
and VP, Operations at Julz Co, a venture capital firm based
in North Carolina and China. Fletcher was Associate
General Counsel at KAUST for three years before being
appointed to his current role in December 2019.
