Matthew Early

Vice President, Facilities Management

Matthew Early joined KAUST in 2019 as Vice President of Facilities Management. He is a Professional Civil Engineer with over 30 years of experience in facilities management, design and construction, capital planning, public safety & transportation, real estate and environmental compliance.

Before joining KAUST, Matthew was the Vice President of Campus Services at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia, Leading a team of over 800 employees and an annual budget of $140M. During his stay in Emory, he developed an extensive annual capital renewal plan that categorized and maintained all assets, in ‘real time’ and this program achieved overall University Facilities Condition Index above peer institutions. He led the development and execution of the first “WaterHub” in North America; it processes raw sewer water into clean reclaimed water for resupplying makeup water and reduced Emory’s domestic water footprint by 40%. He also reorganized the Emory Police Department into a new Public Safety Department which resulted in increased productivity and customer response at no additional cost. In addition, he developed a new “zero-waste policy”, which will help the University to divert 79% of campus waste from municipal landfills with a goal of 95% by 2025. And he successfully executed $630M in new construction and commissioned $538M in new construction which all achieved LEED Silver and above.

Matthew received his Master of Science in Engineering, Minor in Construction Management from University of California, Berkeley and his Master of Business Administration from University of La Verne. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering from United States in Naval Academy and he graduated with Merit.
