تركيز البروفيسور روبرتس الأولى ينصب على الدراسات التجريبية للهب الإنتشار النفثي الدوامي وتدفق السوائل في طبقات متوازية وتفاعلات اللهب- الكتل الدوارة والتشخيص البصري غير الخطي كما ينطبق على التدفقات التفاعلية وتكون السخام ولهب الضغط العالي ومحركات الاحتراق ذات الحجم الثابت وتقنيات التحويل الكيميائي- الحراري للوقود للجيل القادم من الوقود الحيوي.
