King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia's much anticipated $10-billion university, has announced the appointment of its first president, Choon Fong Shih. Mr. Shih, who is the president of the National University of Singapore, will assume the task of creating from scratch what Saudi Arabia hopes will become one of the world's leading research institutions.

KAUST, IIT Sign Deal to Conduct Joint Scientific Research
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay), recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to foster world-class programs that will advance scientific research, graduate education and technological development in fundamental and applied chemical sciences.

Middle East gets Super-Sized Campus
The King of Saudi Arabia is opening a new graduate university in the Middle Eastern state. The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology is thought to have one of the largest university endowments in the world, although the size of the King’s donation will not be revealed until autumn. The campus at Rabigh will open in 2009.
