Aslan Kasimov
Assistant Professor, Applied Mathematics and Computational Science
Clean Combustion Research CenterPh.D. University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, USA, 2004
M.S. University of Virginia, USA, 1999
B.S. Physics, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, Russia, 1993
Research Interests
Professor Kasimov's interests are in the analysis and numerical solution of partial differential equations describing such phenomena as: reacting flows, combustion and detonation waves. Also, shallow–water flows with hydraulic jumps, traffic flows and formation of jamitons, congestion phenomena in complex systems, and fluid flows interacting with elastic boundaries.
His work involves building mathematical models for their description, analyzing linear and nonlinear stability properties of their solutions, and solving the underlying partial differential equations numerically with high–resolution algorithms.
One focus of Kasimov's research includes development of shock–fitting algorithms for simulation of multi–dimensional shock waves.
