Research Interests
Professor Bajic is the author of 260 publications, over 10 books and book chapters, and more than 100 software products and invention disclosures. His primary interest is in the facilitation of biological discoveries through the use of sophisticated bioinformatic systems combined with data modeling methods, with an emphasis on the discovery of bioactive molecules for potential medical applications. To accomplish this, Bajic partly uses technologies he co-developed for identifying co-regulated gene groups implicated in various diseases and cellular responses, along with new modeling technologies for relevant sequence signal recognition.
This also requires tool development for data integration across various resources, accurate identification of biologically important information contained within biomedical data, tools for large-scale analysis of such data, and a systems biology approach.
His bioinformatic tools and resources focus on transcription regulation, hormone effects, biomedical text- and data-mining, and knowledge-discovery. These efforts tightly integrate biochemoinformatics, toxicogenomics, chemogenomics, pharmacogenomics, and pharmacognosy. He hopes this will lead to new avenues for early diagnostics for diseases and will foster links with the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and health industries.
