Research Interests
Professor Xiong's research interests encompass understanding the mechanisms of plant responses to adverse environmental conditions such as drought, extreme temperatures, high soil salinity, and nutrient deficiency. Genes that play critical roles in plant adaptation to these abiotic stresses will be identified using integrative genetics, genomics, and metabolomics approaches. The knowledge generated in our research will be used to breed or bioengineer the next generation of stress-resistant crop plants.
