Chemical and Life Sciences and Engineering Division
Message from the Dean
Welcome to the Chemical and Life Sciences and Engineering (CLSE) Division!
In this division, with the assistance of highly qualified and experienced faculty and superb facilities and resources, we offer you the opportunity to complete your postgraduate studies. You can choose courses that involve lectures, seminars, and laboratory classes, and these courses will contribute to your master’s or Ph.D. degrees in any of the following areas:
- Bioscience
- Chemical and Biological Engineering
- Chemical Sciences
- Marine Science
- Environmental Science and Engineering
If you choose to register for the Bioscience program, you will be given a strong introduction to the fundamentals of living matter, and be able to study anything from plant biology to biophysics to molecular genetics. If you follow the Chemical and Biological Engineering route, you get to choose between advanced chemical engineering or advanced biological engineering. If you are more interested in pursuing a career in chemistry, then you would register for the Chemical Sciences program and focus on analytical, inorganic, organic or physical chemistry.
If you join the Environmental Science and Engineering program, you will be able to select one of four tracks: water quality, chemistry, and treatment; environmental microbiology and biotechnology; environmental fluid mechanics; and air quality and pollution control (not offered during the 2010-2011 academic year). The Marine Science program allows tailoring of courses to your individual interests, and the focus is on the Red Sea as a model system, as well as applying marine science and technology to environmental and marine resource management.
KAUST strongly encourages innovative and independent research and all programs in this division will support your research endeavors. We have some of the most advanced equipment in the world for genomics, proteomics, microscopy, nanofabrication, and nuclear magnetic resonance studies. Combined with the well-equipped experimental laboratories, experimental studies at KAUST will be almost uniquely unconstrained by physical resources.
We look forward to having you join us for your postgraduate studies in the Chemical and Life Sciences and Engineering Division.
Dr. Ken Minneman
