Alternative Transportation
KAUST achieves a higher quality of transportation with less use of resources through smart design, incorporation of new technology, and innovation in technology. The community’s comprehensive alternative transportation plan is an innovative method conceived to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the project by minimizing the impact of single occupancy vehicles through careful design and planning.
Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Shuttle Buses for Campus and Community Use
The KAUST campus and community will utilize an electric Segway sharing program for short-distance travel and an electric vehicle sharing program for longer-distance travel requiring climate control. These alternative transportation methods will have dedicated parking locations throughout the campus and community for easy access by students, faculty and visitors. The KAUST bus system has dedicated stops throughout the campus and community to ensure easy access for all users wishing to reach the Harbor District commercial center, campus, recreational areas and secondary education schools. Bicycle sharing, bicycle racks and changing facilities will be provided, but may be used less during harsh summer months.
