ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Energy plays a pivotal role in the circular economy — a sustainable approach that prioritizes resource efficiency, waste reduction, and the continual use of materials. In this context, energy is not merely a commodity but a critical enabler of circular practices. In a circular economy, energy is harnessed to drive the transformation of waste into valuable resources. Renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, are increasingly integrated into circular systems to reduce reliance on finite resources and decrease the carbon footprint associated with energy production. This transition to cleaner energy aligns with the circular economy's principles. This KAUST conference aims to bring together expertise on energy-related topics within the circular economy, such as waste to energy, waste to value, carbon capture and utilization, energy efficiency, and waste heat utilization.

The conference will focus on three areas, covering a broad range of applications within KAUST researchers’ fields of expertise. These are:

  1. waste-to-energy, specifically waste utilization to generate energy
  2. waste-to-value, specifically conversion of side-streams to valuable products
  3. carbon capture and waste thermal energy integration
