Half-Day workshop on Human-centered soft electronics and soft robotics

April 7, 2026

Kanazawa, Japan

This workshop is part of the "9th IEEE-RAS International Conference on Soft Robotics (Robosoft 2026)

OVERVIEW

Soft electronics and soft robotics play a central role in enabling physically compliant and mechanically adaptive systems that can interface and interact with humans. While both fields have advanced rapidly as distinct research domains, their convergence remains a key challenge. Soft robotics focuses on compliant actuation, soft sensing, and embodied interaction, whereas soft electronics emphasizes stretchable and deformable electronic materials, devices, and circuits, developed with careful attention to mechanical reliability, biocompatibility, and sustainability.

Human-centered applications require the tight integration of these two areas to realize closed-loop systems that combine soft sensing, signal processing, and actuation within mechanically compliant platforms. Such integration is essential for next-generation wearable robotics, medical devices, and assistive technologies that operate reliably under real-world mechanical deformation while providing intuitive, human-friendly interfaces.

This workshop brings together leading researchers from both communities to discuss materials, fabrication strategies, and system-level designs for integrated, human-centered soft electronic and robotic systems, and to advance the convergence of soft electronics and soft robotics toward real-world human interaction.
